Ethernet/802.3 on the HP3000

Can use either coax (BNC connectors), twisted pair, or fiber (FDDI) media. Interface card (lanic) comes with all MPE/iX (RISC) systems; can be bought separately for MPE/V systems (part of the Thin LAN Link product - it includes both hardware and TCP/IP software).

A 10 mb/s card comes with MPE/iX HP3000s, but a 100 mb/s card can also be purchased. Note that the 100 mb/s card utilizes the HP3000 host's cpu (whereas the 10 mb/s interface uses very little host cpu) and thus the 100 mb card is not recommended for low-end HP3000 systems.
