HP3000 E-Mail Configuration: Pointing to a Nameserver
 

To configure your HP3000 so that it can resolve DNS (Domain Name Server) requests, you need to do the following:

• Know the IP address(es) of your DNS server(s). If you don't know, ask your Internet Access provider.
• Sign on your HP3000 as MANAGER.SYS.
• Using your favorite editor, text RSLVSAMP.NET.SYS.
• Modify the last line (it reads 'domain hp.com') and replace the 'hp.com' with your own organization's domain name. (Note; NOT the full machine name, as in hp1.acme.com - just the 'acme.com' part.)
• Add a line for each nameserver you have access to after the domain line; for example 'nameserver 164.109.10.23' - be SURE to spell nameserver in lower case letters.
• Keep the file (unnumbered) as RESLVCNF.NET.
• Create a symbolic link to the file so other POSIX applications can also utilize the file, enter the following while logged on as the MANAGER.SYS user;
  :NEWLINK /etc/resolv.conf ;TO=RESLVCNF.NET.SYS;SYMBOLIC
